The New York Times is running a series of animated shorts. Gary Leib has created a short history on the meat packing district, which can be seen here. Leib has created comics and illustrations for The New Yorker, The New York Observer and Fantagraphics books. He founded Twinkle animation studio in 1993 and has produced animation and titles for film, TV series, music videos and websites. Gary is a graduate of RISD and has taught in the graduate computer animation department at the School of Visual Arts.His website is www.twinkleland.com

On Thursday, April 10, 2008, NYC ACM SIGGRAPH presents their Sixth Annual “Industry Spotlight”. This event features animation and post-production facilities from the NYC-metropolitan area. Their presenters will tell a bit about their company, show some of their recent work, and discuss future projects.
Presenters Include:Charlex, Curious Pictures, Eyeball, Framestore NY, Nathan Love, Psyop, The Mill, and UVPHACTORY.
The event will be held from 7:00PM to 9:00PM at FIT’s John E. Reeves Great Hall. Enter FIT through Building “D”, located on the northwest corner of 27th Street and 7th Avenue.
Admission for this event is free for NYC ACM SIGGRAPH Members, and FIT Faculty, Students and Staff. It is $7.00 for all Non-Member professionals and $3.00 for all Non-Member Students with a current valid Student ID.

If you’re new to sound editing and have heard of programs like ProTools or Logic, and don’t have the cash to plunk down to get started, fear not; Audacity is 100% totally free software to mix sound for your project. You can find it at audacity.sourceforge.net. The documentation is a bit tough to locate on their site, you can find the manual at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manual-1.2/index.html.
